Art/Trek NYC Announces Season 1 Winner
Art/Trek NYC is an unscripted docu-series that travels to each of the five New York City boroughs on a quest to discover the next emerging art star in its one-of-a-kind mobile art gallery – the ArtV. The creator and director, CJ Follini of WelcometoCOMPANY.com is accompanied by famous co-hosts representing each borough such as legendary guitarist Vernon Reid (Staten Island) and renowned performance artist/actor/HuffPost writer Kalup Linzy (Brooklyn). The ArtV was built by WelcometoCOMPANY.com and is a 36 foot RV transfomed into mobile art gallery inside and covered with graffitti art. Art/Trek NYC debuted January 9th on NYC Life Channel 25.
The first half of the season finale (Episode 6) is filmed live in the middle of the prestigious art fair - VOLTA NY. It is the first time ever that an art reality show has filmed at VOLTA and it is where the announcement of the Official Winner of the Art/Trek NYC inaugural season is made - Artist Chris Smith of the Bronx . The second half of the finale is Chris Smith’s solo video exhibition where detailed footage documents the artist’s progress and work since his Art/Trek NYC experience.
According to Creator/Host CJ Follini, “I had no idea if this crazy journey would find an audience but thanks to Katherine Oliver and Diane Petzke of NYC Media, it came to life and everyone seems to dig it. As the director and host, it was a thrill ride to meet these talented artists and accomplished guest hosts and now to film the season’s culmination in the middle of one of the most important art fairs in the world is a dream come true. Mark my words - Chris Smith and the rest of the Art/Trek artists will be hugely successful artists."
Chris Smith’s artwork is based on a conceptual framework that combines diverse media, like, construction equipment, HD video cameras, digital projectors, and assembly line manufactured objects. Personifying paint as performance artist, viewers get a glimpse of Smith’s experimental process in this unique solo exhibition experience.
